The European Union
The Establishment of the
European Union was a long process from 1951 to 1992. The European Union was
founded as European Coal and Steal Community by six West European Countries
which are Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, France and Netherland after World
War II so as to develop industry and keep
the peace between countries. In 1992, European Union was evolved and its
economic power was increased; thus, the EU became the world's most economically
powerful organization. Over the six decades, twenty-one European countries have
been members and now there are twenty-seven members. Furthermore, the two main
purposes of European Union have sustained the economical and political
cooperation among European countries since 1992.
The
European economic cooperation is one of the most significant organisations of
the world economy in the 21st century. To start with, the main reason of the
European Union was reviving economy again in Europe. To go into further detail,
there was economically powerful Europe between the 15th and the 19th centuries.
After the 15th century, European economy increased
because of colonialism in mariner countries which are especially Spain,
Portugal, Britain, and France. Then
European economy reached a peak during the Industrial Revolution since West
European countries obtained raw materials from their colonies such as Africa,
India and so on. The raw material was processed in factories in Europe.
Nevertheless, during the Second World War, most of the European countries lost
their colonies, and their industries dwindled; therefore, economical collapse
was inevitable result for European countries. As a consequence of this, some
western European countries took several measures so as to boost the industry
and economy such as creating a common market in Europe, stabilisation of currency
unity of exchange rate and a single currency unit of exchange ''euro''.
The second cause of the
Establishment of European Union was political relations among European
countries. For centuries, Europe was the scene of bloody wars due to conflict
of interest, and understanding of nationalism and ethnic identity, for example,
France and Germany fought each other three times from 1870 to 1945. Hence,
after the Second World War, European Union was founded in order to prevent
possible wars, avoid nationalism and
keep the peace among neighbours.
On the other hand, The
European union has enhanced since the beginning of the foundation, and
connection among participant countries is getting stronger economically and
politically. Nevertheless, it can be
alleged that there are an inverse proportionality between strengthening of the
European Union and sovereignty of participant countries.
The European Union
offers golden opportunities to participant countries such as improving foreign
trade, and obstacle to cold wars between countries. However, The European Union confines
sovereignty of the participant countries on the ground that it has its own
constitution, flag, and monetary unit. Moreover, the constitution of The EU has
crucial impact on every aspect of the government and, especially, there are
great influences on legislature, executive, and judiciary. Hence, it can be
said that The European Union is like a big country which is composed of 27 states.
In conclusion, if the
information which has been given above is taken into account, it can be
inferred that The European Union was founded so as to prevent possible wars
between neighbours and increase industry and economy in Europe. Furthermore, the
constitution was written in order to protect interests of its members. Nevertheless,
The European Union restricts sovereignty of the participant countries.
